Weekly Check-In Prompts

Each week, we’ll send out discussion topics and prompts to help guide your mentor-mentee conversations. These are designed to get the conversation going on important topics and to keep the conversation structured.

Panels & Workshops

You’ll have access to inspiring panels and hands-on workshops covering everything from co-ops and imposter syndrome, to branding and interdisciplinary CS. These events are targeted at the mentees but will be open to mentors as well! Each week, we’ll send out discussion topics and prompts to help guide your mentor-mentee conversations. These are designed to get the conversation going on important topics and to keep the conversation structured.

Project Inspiration & Support

Whether you’re brand new to coding or looking to expand your portfolio, we’ve compiled a list of project ideas tailored to different experience levels. They can be used as a guideline on what to work towards, and you can expand or change the project as you wish.

Community on Discord

We’re building a private Discord server just for your cohort, with channels for everything from tech tips and co-op talk to fun events and random wins. You’ll have a space to connect beyond your mentor pair, ask questions, and cheer each other on.

Activities & Challenges

Expect fun ways to stay engaged with the Wisteria community! We’ll have challenges for mentees designed to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and try new things in your first month of university.

What You Can Expect From Us

What We Expect From You

Mentee Expectations

Wisteria is what you make of it! To get the most out of your mentorship experience, we ask that mentees:

  •  Be engaged in weekly check-ins (ask questions and be curious!)
  •  Attend as many workshops and panels as you can
  •  Reach out to your mentor when you’re feeling stuck, unsure, or just want to talk
  •  Actively work on a coding project (solo or with a partner)
  •  Learn the tech skills you need to complete your project!
  •  Be a friendly face in the Wisteria Discord — support others and build your community

Mentor Expectations

Wisteria mentors are integral to the program. You are the guides, role models, and a source of encouragement for the next generation of women in CS. As a mentor, we ask that you:

  • Lead weekly check-ins with your mentee(s)
  • Share your experiences openly and be available to answer questions
  • Help your mentee stay on track with their project progress
  • Be a positive, authentic role model as a woman in CS
  • Stay engaged in the Wisteria Discord

You’re not expected to:

  • Teach your mentee how to code. We are focused more on personal and career development in CS; we are not a bootcamp
